The Waves Crash Around

by Kristi Hines · Australia

This was another stop off the Great Ocean Road in Australia. It was before I knew about HDR and the need for clouds instead of blue skies, but I think for the beach, blue skies are just perfect!

A great shot here Kristi, love that half the scene is in shadow, outstanding work!!

I like the comp. You have the horizon on the upper third and giving the bulk of the picture to the cove area.

Beautiful shot Kristi.

I think this shot looks perfectly fine with no clouds. Just think, if there were awesome clouds in the sky, I’m sure you would have noticed. They also might have been fighting for your attention. 🙂

I think this image works beautifully the way it is without the use of HDR! Really love the power of the water in the cove!

Clouds do add to an image but this one stands just fine as it is. Nicely done!

I think this is a great image. For me, the clouds — particularly HDR clouds — would have pulled attention away from the great subject matter. Now… if the clouds WERE there, moving to the left would have pulled the eye through the cove, shooting out to the clouds, but from this perspective, perfect. This place would also look killer with a long-exposure, ND filter arrangement.

Look at those layers! You’ve captured some real-life geology here… no HDR necessary! 🙂

What a gorgeous landscape. Love the layers and strata of rock formation.
