Standing Tall

by Kristi Hines · Arizona, Tucson

One of the first road trips my husband and I made together was to Mt. Lemmon near Tucson, Arizona. There were lots of great trails to hike, and great trees to photograph. It was before I had an appreciation for just how awesome clouds were in photos, but luckily I took advantage of them when I had the chance.

Very nice! Is it my monitor or did you leave a little brown on the trunk? Looks great regardless…

Great comp! The only thing it is missing is a Raven yelling Nevermore and some creepy music ;)

Really cool. I like how it’s ALMOST mono, seems slightly tinted, but I love that look. Makes you think. Nice job.

DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES

The subtle colour tones caressing the bark are beautifully muted and very effective in a frame of real beauty and depth. Set angainst the glorious cloudscape, the lightning tree feels imposing and powerful, we the viewer so tiny and insignificant by comparison. These are the trees that I look out for bald eagles on back home in BC, as they love the vision gained from being perched upon the top. A stunning frame and composition.

Photographing trees is one of my favorite past times. I love this shot, Kristi, you’ve really captured the essence of this “tree person” very very well! The sky just adds a ton of emotion and drama to the overall scene here; absolutely wonderful.
