Forrest Gump

by Kristi Hines on April 28, 2011 · HDR, Monument Valley, Utah

Sometimes you end up finding things you don’t expect when on the road. While we were shooting a rainstorm over Monument Valley, I saw a sign on the sign of the road that said Forest Gump. Upon closer inspection, it was a sign that marks the spot where Forest ends his cross country run in 1980 in the movie Forrest Gump. I love this movie, so this shot is easily one of my favorites from our anniversary weekend road trip.

I really like the clouds over Monument Valley. The storms you guys get are very photogenic compared to here in Florida.

Being a weather photographer, I love those skies, but they are only part of a great composition. Very well done.

Great find is that Forrest Gump sign, and a great shot to boot!
Really like how that road seems to be leading right to the storm in the distance. :-)

After seeing the post title on Twitter I was really expecting an image of a guy sat on a bench, so was a little surprised to see this. I really like those menacing clouds over on the left…it looks like the place is about to get very wet, very quickly.

I love that you guys took a road trip for your anniversary :) And also…had no idea they had an actual sign out there! Awesome!

What road is this exactly?

I believe it was Highway 163. I remembered that scene in the movie and thought it was nice that they actually marked the exact spot! :)

Fantastic perspective on this shot, Kristi, I love your composition as everyone else has mentioned as well! What an interesting sign there! It’s kind of funny to see that sitting in the middle of nowhere like that, talk about adding a bunch of drama to the scene!

So cool that you guys had this great trip together. Beautiful image with those amazing clouds in the back. I have to say, though, that as I’m not a fan of the movie I’m scratching my head as to how or why you end a cross-country run in Utah?
