Bird on a Rock

by Kristi Hines · Arizona, Tempe

If there is one thing that I am never good with, it’s titles. I’m sure it’s because I’m one of those literal people, or because I do some SEO and have the mindset of keywords over creativity. Either way, after a super stressful evening that resulted in me having to leave my cat Zoe at the vet overnight because of a high fever, this was the most interesting title I could think of for this photo. Any alternative title suggestions are welcome!

Let’s face it, some photos are just tough to title. 🙂
This is a great shot, catching the bird in a wonderful pose. He or she has quite set of talons.
Nice one, Kristi.

All the best to Zoe.

Sorry about your cat with it’s fever. Hope all is well. This bird seems quite stately. I typically name my photos with the first thing that pops into my head. Usually it works, sometimes not. As for a title, Bird on a Rock works. It is what it is. Another name, perhaps – Admiral Beak.

Could of been worse you could of went with”bird staring off into space” or “bird looking left”. Just kidding Kristi. It is hard at times to come up with good names. Love the blueish green feathers on his back.

I like this shot, pretty much exactly what I would expect for this bird.

And a title… Hmm…. ok here is my takes.

Serious title: “The Watchful”
Not so serious title: “If I Don’t Move, Maybe She Won’t See Me!”

Don’t we just worry too much about SEO these days?

Hope your cat get well already.

Taking photo of a bird isn’t easy. They move so fast. This one seems to be waiting for fish to come. Nice detail shot!

Titles are hard. That’s why I keep ’em simple and just say what the photo is. Besides, I want people searching by title to be able to find the photo they want.

Anyway – Very nice picture of this heron basically doing what herons do. Great detail.

I’m not great with titles but I’ll bet I’m the only nature nerd that can name the bird – it’s a Black-crowned Night Heron… a voracious consumer of fish, frogs and anything else it can pluck from the shoreline. Really nice capture! They are not an overly common bird.

Wow, Kristi, what a dramatic scene! I can’t get over how sharp and crisp this image really is; you can see each and every feather on this little bird-friend! God, I hope your cat is OK, my friend, we’ll be sending tons of good energy your way today.

Hope Zoe is feeling better! I know how you feel about titles, it takes me longer to write the title than the whole post! Nice shot though!

I think that what really matters here is that you captured a wonderful image! I love his pensive pose and balancing act before he harpoons a fish! Don’t think that those beautiful rocks beneath the shallow water went unnoticed.

“Night Heron on a Rock”…. lol… I generally use the place… looks like you were next to a river also would probably add that to the title as well. I don’t have problems with Titles at all… it’s writing the darn post that’s the hardest! From an SEO standpoint I always use location and subject.

p.s. for some reason your site goes down on me, not sure why, could be your server?

I never worry about titles too much; it’s the content that counts.
And the content here is excellent.

I guess I’m a Luddite, I had to look up SEO. Great shot of the Night Heron, I’ve never gotten close enough for anything other than an id shot.

“Heron Starin'” See, it’s best not to over think these things especially if your a literalist.
Hope Zoe is feeling better and your stress level has notched down. That sure is a great Night heron catch by the way, gorgeous detail!
Wait, I’ve got it! “Night watch” That ties in your cat vigil, Night heron image, and leaves you open for a Rembrandt quote like “Painting (photography) is the grandchild of nature, it is related to God!” Rembrandt of course having painted his famous Night Watch in 1642.

Titles are not the easiest to figure out. May I suggest “Black-crowned Night Heron”? If it’s a post about a single species of bird, the name of the bird in the title is a great SEO tool.

Excellent capture! Hope Zoe gets well soon!

We don’t have the Night Heron over in the UK.
A simple adjustment of your original would do for me.

Hi there – very good picture – herons can be very flightly at times, so getting a picture like that is a good effort.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who looked up “SEO”!!

Cheers

Naming the Bird is helpful to us who wouldn’t be able to ID it off the cuff. Just a thought.
